Sussex Central High School student,
Sharheem Taylor, was selected as one of six, to represent the state of
Virginia at the National High School League Conference in Indianapolis,
Indiana, on July 16-29, 2009.
Sussex Central High School student,
Sharheem Taylor, was selected to represent Region A as a student
leadership representative, for the Virginia High School League for the
2009-10 school year.
Sussex Central High School students,
Sharheem Taylor and Tyshad Skipper, were selected to represent Sussex
County Public School Division as student representatives attending the
Minority Law and Research Institute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on June
22-July 2, 2009.

Pantina Artis and Erica Goines, were selected to represent Sussex County
Public School Division by DuPont Industries to attend the VSU/DuPont
National Science Foundation Prep Summer Program at Virginia State
University, on June 14-July 9, 2009.

Division by the Virginia Department of Transportation to attend the VSU
Summer Transportation Institute Program at Virginia State University, on

David Shaw, was selected to represent Sussex County Public School
Division by the U.S. Army Research Bureau as a student representative
attending the U.S. Army's Research Engineering Apprenticeship Program at
Norfolk State University, for the month of August.

David Shaw and Dominique Richardson, were selected to represent Sussex
County Public School Division as student representatives to participate
in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program at
NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.

Pantina Artis was selected to represent Sussex County Public School
Division as a student participant in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership
Virginia Seminar at the University of Richmond, on May 29 and 30, 2009.
Sussex Central High School had 20 students to attend the Virginia High School League's Student Leadership
Virginia Conference in Newport News, Virginia in November 2009.

Dajaynae Williams, was selected to receive the U.S.D.A. Cooperative Internship at Virginia State University for four years totaling
$140,000.00.
Sussex Central High School 2009
graduating senior class was awarded close to $500,000.00 (one half
million dollars) in scholarships and other monetary awards.
Sussex Central High School's J.R.O.T.C.
program received recognition from the U.S. Army and the Sussex County
Public School Board for scoring exceptionally high marks for the last two
years during its annual program inspection.

Business Leaders of America (F.B.L.A.) program received 1st, 2nd, and
3rd, place recognitions at the Regional F.B.L.A. Conference at Virginia
State University on March 12, 2009.
Sussex Central High School's Family
Career and Community Leaders of America (F.C.C.L.A.) received 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd, place recognitions at the regional F.C.C.L.A. Competition at
the Virginia State Fair and at the Life Skills competition (Life Smarts)
held at Virginia Commonwealth University in October 2008.
Sussex Central High School's Family
Career and Community Leaders of America (F.C.C.L.A.) class is the first
and only high school in the state of Virginia to train and certify
students to be first responders in emergency situations such as natural
disasters, terrorist events, or situations that would require first aide
assistance. Over 80 high school students have been certified by the
county's Safety Coordinator through the C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency
Response Team) program.
