INSTRUCTIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Achieved 100% pass rate in Algebra I
- Achieved 100% pass rate in Math 8
- Provided after-school tutorial programs in all
SOL tested subject areas
- Maintained the “Power of the I” Program - The
“Power of the I” Program promotes the student success by eliminating
the use of zeroes for incomplete assignments. Students do not have
the option to not turn in assignments
- Participated in the national “Let’s Move!
Flash Workout” on May 3, 2011
- Active participant in the “Fuel Up to Play 60”
which promotes healthy eating
- Our own Dr. Blackwell was awarded the
Professional Leadership Award 2011 by Virginia State University
- Ms. Shirelle Phillip was recognized as Sussex
Central Middle School’s Teacher of the Year
- Mr. Eric Byrd was recognized as Sussex
Division’s Technology Support of the Year
- Mrs. Patricia Bagley was recognized as Sussex
Division’s Technology Support of the Year
- Participated in the Copper Enameling and
Claymation Workshops presented by the Rawls Art Museum
- Collected 780 canned foods for the needy in
our annual Christmas Canned Food Drive
- Sponsored a float and won second place in the
2010 Waverly Christmas Parade
- Participated in the “Get Active, Get Fit
School Challenge” Program sponsored statewide by Anthem Blue Cross
and Blue Shield in partnership with Radio Disney to promote healthy,
active lifestyles
- D.A.R.E. Program – The D.A.R.E. Program is a
decision-making model which assists students identify and address
bullying/harassment in school, neighborhoods, and on the Internet
- Too Good for Drugs Program – Too Good for
Drugs is a school-based prevention program designed to reduce risk
factors and enhance protective factors related to alcohol, tobacco,
and other drug use among students
- Title I Schoolwide Program – Title I is a
grant targeted for improving the academic achievement of the
disadvantage
- 21st Century Community Learning Center Summer
Camp 2011 – The summer camp establishes a summer learning center to
provide opportunities for academic enrichment and tutorial services,
to offer activities to reinforce and complement the regular academic
program, and offer families of 21st Century students opportunities
for literacy and related educational development
- Installed Promethean Boards in all core area
classrooms
