SCPS Reminder: Sussex County Public Schools will be closed Monday, October 14, 2024 in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. Schools will resume their regular operating schedules on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Dear Tiger Families,
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.
A Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to have a lockdown drill in the first 20 days of school and notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices that drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are also required to practice lockdown drills two additional times during the school year. We will conduct the next drill between Friday, October 11th and Friday, October 18th, 2024.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help in keeping our school safe.

SCPS Reminder: Due to occasional bus driver absences, SCPS has to double up some buses. As a result, Students may occasionally arrive home up to 30 min later than normal. Thank you for your patience as we work to hire more substitute drivers. If interested in being a bus driver, please apply online or call 434-246-1099.

National Custodian Day is celebrated on October 2nd and was established in 1995 to recognize the hard work of custodians and caretakers who keep public spaces clean and safe. The day acknowledges the often unseen and underappreciated work that custodians do, which includes maintenance, ensuring public health, and creating a pleasant environment.
Today Bus #'s 14 & 42 will help with student pickup/drop-off for Bus #16 (Stony Creek). We thank you for your patience and continuous support.
In September, we proudly celebrate School Attendance Awareness Month. Throughout this month, we will honor our three dedicated School Attendance Officers. Today, we are thrilled to recognize Mrs. Ronica Harris for her incredible work at Sussex Central Elementary School to reduce absenteeism.
The SCHS Varsity Football game vs. Greensville scheduled for Friday, 9/27/24, has been RESCHEDULED to Thursday, 9/26/24, @ 7:00 PM.
SCPS REMINDER: Friday, September 27, 2024, is a Student Early Release Day & Professional Development Day for teachers/staff. Secondary students will be dismissed @ 11:30 am and elementary students will be dismissed @ 1:00 pm.
