  • Sussex County Public Schools Staggered School Opening 2022-23

Notification of Staggered School Opening for Parents and Students:

Sussex County Public Schools has been considering options to combat our shortage of transportation staff issues faced during the 2021-2022 school year.  In May 2022, we surveyed parents, teachers, and stakeholders to determine the impact of a staggered school opening on our community for the 2022-23 school year.  Our findings indicated that the majority of our stakeholders comprising of both families and employees would support the staggering of opening times for our schools.

Therefore, Sussex County Public Schools is proposing changing our schools’ operating hours at both the elementary and secondary levels.  Sussex Central Elementary School hours will now be from 8:45 am to 3:45 pm. Elementary Morning Care Drop-off will still be available to parents.  Sussex Central High School and Sussex Central Middle School hours will now be from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.  While we understand that this option impacts households differently, we feel that the change is necessary to address the shortage of bus drivers that we, like many other divisions, are facing.

Thank you for your continued support of Sussex County Public Schools,

    Dr. Arthur L. Jarrett, Jr.

    Division Superintendent
