We have just wrapped up a very busy and exciting week at SCES, and we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support. This week included Coffee with the Principals, our second-grade students beginning swimming lessons, the PTA fundraiser kick-off, and our first round of checkpoint assessments. It has been wonderful to see our students and teachers working extremely hard, and we are very pleased with the progress our students are making so far this year.
We would also like to invite you to join us for Interim Report Card Pickup on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4:30–7:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, review progress, and discuss ways to support continued growth. If you are not able to attend, please call the school to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher at a time that works for you and your child’s teacher.
Our PTA does amazing things for our students, staff, and entire school community. From sponsoring special events, supporting classroom initiatives, organizing family engagement activities, and providing resources that directly benefit our students, their impact is truly felt each day. In order for them to continue providing these wonderful opportunities, they must raise funds throughout the year.

Your involvement and support truly makes a difference and will pay dividends in your child’s growth and achievement.

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.
A Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to have a lockdown drill in the first 20 days of school and notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices that drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are also required to practice lockdown drills two additional times during the school year.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help in keeping our school safe.
