Pre-Lockdown Drill Notification

Dear SCES Community:
At Sussex Central Elementary School, our top priority is the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We are committed to fostering a safe learning environment for all students and are always looking for ways to improve school security and safety. Therefore, we must practice our emergency and crisis plans throughout the school year by having our faculty, staff, and students participate in fire, tornado, shelter-in-place, and lockdown drills that simulate real-life scenarios.
The state of Virginia requires all public schools to conduct lockdown drills throughout the school year. The state also requires all public schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before performing a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill.
I will continue to keep you informed of safety and security measures in place at our school. If you have questions, please call or contact the school. As always, thank you for your continued support.

Winter Break Notification: All schools and district offices will be closed for Winter Break from Monday, December 22, 2025, to January 3, 2026. Schools will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026!
Early Release Reminder: As scheduled on the district’s calendar, tomorrow, Friday, December 19, 2025, is an early release day. Sussex Central Middle School and Sussex Central High School will dismiss at 12:15 p.m., and Sussex Central Elementary School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
Attention SCES Parents: There will be NO 21st Century Afterschool Program for elementary school students today, December 18, 2025.
Please join us for the holiday concert tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Students are expected to arrive by 5:30 pm. Thank you!
SCMS Afterschool Bus Update: Please be advised that Sussex Central Middle School will hold the 21st Century Program today. Due to other school events, students may arrive home later than normal from the afterschool program tonight.
We will make every effort to ensure students arrive home as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
