Please see the information below regarding our first lockdown procedure:
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.
A Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to have a lockdown drill in the first 20 days of school and notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices that drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are also required to practice lockdown drills two additional times during the school year.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help in keeping our school safe.

The strong connection between home and school truly makes our community special and is one of the many reasons why we are the best school around.
As we continue to build momentum, I want to emphasize the significance of open and effective communication between parents and our school team. Regular and transparent communication allows us to quickly address questions, celebrate successes together, and provide the necessary support when challenges arise. This partnership ensures that our students not only meet expectations but also thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, I encourage you to prioritize studying and reading at home. Even dedicating just 20 to 30 minutes each evening/night to focused study or reading can make a significant difference in building strong habits, enhancing comprehension, and reinforcing the skills taught in class. Therefore, we must practice our emergency and crisis plans throughout the school year by having our faculty, staff, and students participate in fire, tornado, shelter-in-place, and lockdown drills that simulate real-life scenarios.
