Greetings, SCMS Families!
During the Back to School Bash, we shared a survey with parents/guardians regarding various issues. The feedback was meaningful and beneficial. One of the questions on the survey involved parents' preferences for after school parent events. Look no further! Our first family engagement event entitled "The After-School Edge" will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Please see the attached flyer for a brief summary of what the event will entail.
We are excited about our first event at SCMS and we look forward to you joining us for many more.
As always, thank you for your continued support of Sussex Central Middle School.

Dear SCES Families:
What an incredible start to the school year! These first three days have been filled with excitement, joy, and a sense of new beginnings. Thank you for preparing your children so well and for partnering with us to ensure a smooth and successful opening. Our staff has been inspired by the smiles, energy, and enthusiasm your children have brought into the building.
This week, our students have been finishing up their beginning-of-year pre-assessments while learning classroom routines and expectations. These assessments help teachers understand each child’s starting point so that instruction can be tailored to meet their needs. With assessments complete, we are excited to launch the first full week of instruction next week!
We are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support, encouragement, and challenge they need to thrive this school year.
It is essential for parents, teachers, and the school to collaborate in order to ensure every child's success. We encourage you to actively participate in your child's education by maintaining open communication with their teacher, supporting them in completing homework, and dedicating time each night to studying and reading. Together, we can help every student grow and reach their full potential.

Dear SCES Families,
The countdown to the new school year is on! Our dedicated teachers have been hard at work this week, arranging desks, decorating classrooms, participating in professional development sessions, and adding special touches to create welcoming and engaging environments.
We are excited to invite you to our Open House on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event will be a wonderful opportunity for students to receive their classroom schedules and meet their teachers.
Please note that Thursday, August 14, will also be the last chance for parents to register their children for school before the new school year begins. There will be no student registration during the first three days of school (August 18–20).
For the 2025–2026 school year, SCES will transition from ClassDojo to Apptegy for all school communications. Parents can expect more information about Apptegy at the Open House. Please remember that Thursday, August 14, will be the final day SCES communicates through ClassDojo—attending Open House will help you stay connected!
Our staff can’t wait to see the smiles, energy, and curiosity our students will bring when school starts on Monday, August 18, 2025. We are looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and wonderful memories.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Mr. Councill
